- BACKGROUND: In 2006, the Qatar Hope Fund was established by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar. The Qatar Hope Fund was awarded to seven Gulf Coast area organizations after Hurricane Katrina. Memorial was given $10.8 million to assist victims of Katrina with medical care not covered by insurance or other funding.
